about the artist

Giftus John is an artist, photographer and writer who lives in New Jersey. A native of the Caribbean island of Dominica, he pays homage to his upbringing and the natural beauty that surrounds his homeland. Giftus is inspired by the beauty and peace that nature exudes. 

As a youth,  Giftus’ talent in creative writing in Dominica, became apparent when he won first place in both the National Day Poetry and Short Story Competitions in 1975.  Though he has completed training to hone his skills, Giftus is fully self taught. 

When he migrated to the United States, raising and providing for his family became the priority yet at the same time he was able to publish five books. 

In the past ten years, Giftus has had more time to focus on self expression through various art forms. He started his business Geejay Arts & Photo in 2009 through which he publishes his writings, photographs and paintings.
